The social bubble
Yes thats the flavour of the season and this season looks like its going to last for a long time.
Mark Zuckerberg's secret plans of world domination seem to be taking shape rather inconspicuously. Facebook has taken over. Our minds and our lives.
Man is a social animal, but are we choosing to ignore the limits of our discretioanry senses by giving in to this wave? The dangers are very real. We are living alternate lives. One on Facebook (a blanket term for social networking) and the other in real life. Needless to add, the line between the real and the virtual is one that the individual is fearful of crossing beacuse he knows the person on the other side is not one he ever wants to know.
It is interesting to know where your friend went on his last holiday but its equally needless to know why somebody hates coffee or when anyone tops dinner with a dessert!
An overdone act doesnt last very long. Simple analogies: overstuffed stomach, overstuffed suitcase or an overdone makeup. Facebook is turing out to be an 'overdone' where boundaries of human tolerance are tested. The guise of 'virtual' is a natural advantage that gives each and every facebook user the patience to tolerate the mess that they see around them.
Its a bubble and I hope it bursts soon so that people realise sooner rather than later that living two lives doesnt mean you'll have double the fun.
