The little big one

No this is not about a clutter breaking media innovation or a redefining marketing swoop. This blog is for everything but that.

This is about the N900, the linux based, phone or is it a computer, or lets just call it a 'perpetual prototype'. While andriod based phones keep getting launched every month, this silent storm has been brewing for some time now. Is it ready to take the world of smartphones by storm?

The phone is marvellous, though a little heavy/ bulky and has a resistive touch screen, is it the potential android killer. Fundamentally 'open' like the android, backed by a company with a legacy of ground-breaking phones, this should prove to be quite a stirrer.

Watch this space.

The cup of joy

The world cup was here, just yesterday.

In a blazing one month, the beautiful game struck the world with its awe and left us dazed. Wodnering what to do with our lives for the next four years. Well thats not what this post is about.

This post is also not about who clicked - Mueller, Klose, Forlan, Schnieder, the list is long. It is also not about those who should've clicked but instead slipped - Rooney, Kaka, Ronaldo, the list is long!

Amidst the harrowing sounds of the vuvuzela, the chants of fans and the frenzy of the press, this post is about the man with the cards (a certain red and a certain yellow) - the ref

Kudos to Howard Webb for the way he handled the final. 14 Ys and 1 R is no mean feat. 85000 fans in the stadium, some 17 million on TV, heads of states, the creme de la creme of world football and 2 teams taking on each other like thier life was on line. Talk about pressure.

Delivering an annual brand plan presentation to an AVP, some may say, is also tremendous pressure.

If you ask me, the Dutch came with a plan and executed it with perfection. The referee read through it and did what he was supposed to do. Final or no final, a foul is a foul is a foul. It was interesting to see the post-match water cooler conversations revolving around the style of play and not for one the fact that in fact Webb was lineant with the Dutch by not giving cards to Schnieder (42'), Robben (114') and van Bommel (22') . In fact, the score could have been worse had De jong been red-carded for the high-boot-into-the-chest of Alonso at the start of the game.

As I saw it, the man was in it for a good match and saw no sense in sending off half the dutch team before half-time. So he took his chances and kept them on. The Dutch, in the most uncharacteristic (and disappointing) display kept romping on. Till Mr. Webb finally gave in and the Dutch lost.

10 points to Howard Webb. See you at the BPL.
