India shining
I read an article the other day in the editorial section of India's widely read daily TOI. Written by one of India's most respected people, someone who has made the nation proud with his achievements. Not an over achiever but definitely worth the applause.
The article was about how India has been historically and still to a large extent perceived in the west as a land of snake charmers, blood drinking priests and the famous rope trick. The author, in a very simple and effective manner drove the point home through the example of 'Indiana Jones and the temple of doom' which took director steven spielberg to greater heights. Well the articel essentially focused on how the perecptions and opinions of the western world have been formed through myopic and distorted depictions of India. Although the articel was thought provoking and really enthused me but what struck me was the fact that at this point in time when India is writing and rewriting the rules of the game. Whether world trade, politics, defence etc its is of primary importance to bring to the fore those issues that plague the country. Wide spread hatred among communities, religious sections, caste differentiation are evils that are choking the country to death. more than 25% of the Indian land is occupied/ disputed by the naxals...everybody who is anybody wants to have a small little manor to themselves...reminds me of history class in school about feudalism.
Its like showing off the best furniture to your neighbour but sleeping on a mattress on the floor in your bedroom. Its most important to clean upi the mess inside the house before going out on the street and inviting the whole world for dinner..
My back and shoulder is killing me now but I could go on about this...
Maybe tomorrow
New words leanr: pro bono, calisthenics
