Third time unlucky
The dutch have been ousted for the third time. Even a resolute performance by the Oranje was not enough to deter Spain who hung on till the very end and snatched victory from the Dutch. I could have been even more disappointed, rather shattered had this loss come to Germany, Argentina or Italy. It is fair when the better team wins.
Meanwhile the MBA application season has started and the momentum has already begun to show signs. Forums have started buzzing with activity. Strangely enough nothing has changed for me since the last time I applied which brings me to the question of whether or not I should be applying this year.
The rupee got its logo and India has now become the 5th currency to have a symbol. Quite and achievement but the real task has only just begun. Integrating this into global business practices including databases, software/ hardware etc will be a mammoth task. While Mr. Udaya Kumar will be a man richer by Rs 2.5 lakhs, what change does this promise to the common man of India.
The iPhone 4 press conference is believed to have been scheduled just about some hours from now to sort out the mess on the antenna problems. In my reading on Apple in the past couple of months, I've come to realise if not conclude one thing: that Apple really is not a trailblazer but has bettered existing products with thier superior understanding of technology. How do I say this? This is how:
I noticed 2 interesting points in Steve Jobs' interview at the D2 conference in 2004. First, while on the portable entertainment discussion he was confident that he was not going to launch portable video. And within no time from that conference was born the iPod classic, the 80 GB video iPod that even I possess today.
Second, he mentioned that he was also not going to enter the tablet PC market. And need I say more, the launch of iPad in 2010 has created quite a stir in the market.
Two clear things emerge: Apple doesnt have its finger on the pulse of the consumer but it possesses the wherewithal to better any technology that is already in the market. So is it a tech leader or a follower? I dont know. I'm just glad anybody not supposed to be reading this is not reading this!
